Our Journey & History
The foundational roots of G.F. Potgieter Woodworking Machinery (GFP Machines) run deep into the structural heritage of Southern Africaโs industrial culture. Established as a standalone commercial powerhouse over 22 years ago, the enterprise represents the life work and operational culmination of its founder, Gys Potgieter.
Gysโs devotion to the trade ignited at the humble age of 14, crafting wooden pencil boxes. This raw passion matured over 36 years of direct hand-crafted execution and manufacturing leadership, during which he personally spearheaded and scaled multiple successful wood product production facilities across the subcontinent.
Recognizing a massive regional deficit for dependable, precision-serviced infrastructure, GFP Machines shifted from production to pan-African equipment supply. By combining international machinery acquisitions with rigorous in-house technical reconditioning systems, the company established an unparalleled supply architecture. Today, operating out of a massive multi-building showroom complex in Johannesburg, GFP Machines holds the distinction of managing the single largest stock of new and pre-owned specialized woodworking and sawmilling machinery on the African continent.
